A Really Long Thanksgiving Post

We have had a nice restful weekend. Our turkey was perfect and tender. Our plates (and bellies) full of good food. Every year we go around the table and say what we are thankful for. The resounding theme this year was that we are all thankful for each other. In good times and bad; we are happy our family lives nearby.

The boy was happy with his plate, he wouldn't stop for a photo, but did give me a "thumbs up".

We had an impromptu game of telephone. The biggest laugh-out-loud moment came when the Swedish word "jordgubbar" (strawberry) became "you're a pooper" by the end. There wasn't a dry eye at the table!

The evening ended with a movie (Santa Claus 3) and some Black Friday Ad Dancing. Haven't tried it? I highly recommend it!

Blessings to you~

5 Kernels of Corn

Five Kernels of Corn
by Hezekiah Butterworth

'Twas the year of the famine in Plymouth of old,
The ice and the snow from the thatched roofs had rolled;
Through the warm purple skies steered the geese o'er the seas,
And the woodpeckers tapped in the clocks of the trees;
And the boughs on the slopes to the south winds lay bare,
and dreaming of summer, the buds swelled in the air.
The pale Pilgrims welcomed each reddening morn;
There were left but for rations Five Kernels of Corn.
Five Kernels of Corn!
Five Kernels of Corn!
But to Bradford a feast were Five Kernels of Corn!

"Five Kernels of Corn! Five Kernels of Corn!
Ye people, be glad for Five Kernels of Corn!"
So Bradford cried out on bleak Burial Hill,
And the thin women stood in their doors, white and still.
"Lo, the harbor of Plymouth rolls bright in the Spring,
The maples grow red, and the wood robins sing,
The west wind is blowing, and fading the snow,
And the pleasant pines sing, and arbutuses blow.
Five Kernels of Corn!
Five Kernels of Corn!
To each one be given Five Kernels of Corn!"

O Bradford of Austerfield hast on thy way,
The west winds are blowing o'er Provincetown Bay,
The white avens bloom, but the pine domes are chill,
And new graves have furrowed Precisioners' Hill!
"Give thanks, all ye people, the warm skies have come,
The hilltops are sunny, and green grows the holm,
And the trumpets of winds, and the white March is gone,
Five Kernels of Corn!
Five Kernels of Corn!
Ye have for Thanksgiving Five Kernels of Corn!

"The raven's gift eat and be humble and pray,
A new light is breaking and Truth leads your way;
One taper a thousand shall kindle; rejoice
That to you has been given the wilderness voice!"
O Bradford of Austerfield, daring the wave,
And safe through the sounding blasts leading the brave,
Of deeds such as thine was the free nation born,
And the festal world sings the "Five Kernels of Corn."
Five Kernels of Corn!
Five Kernels of Corn!
The nation gives thanks for Five Kernels of Corn!

Good intentions

I had a good start on the week of thanksgiving! I was a bit slammed the last few days and that is something I'm thankful for. I'm also thankful for my sore muscles tonight. I managed a 3.5 mile run and Body Pump today in preparation for the food fest this week. I am determined not to lose the strides I made this fall in training.

I will have to the little swedes tomorrow for their thoughts on gratitude. I'm sure it will go something like this: "I'm thankful for Miss Brenda who gave us a foosball table." Or perhaps "I'm thankful for my cats." Does that sound about right?

*on a jewelry note, I'm taking photos and preparing to list a bunch of my beaded jewelry. I have not decided yet whether to put it on my site, etsy or ebay...I will post it here first!*

Day 4

I'm thankful for the unseasonably warm weather; tomorrow I plan on hitting the pavement for an outdoor run as we expect almost 80 degree temps! Of course then Wednesday we may get snow. Only in Kansas!

Day 5

From 5 "I'm thankful for butterflies because they fly around."

The Swede says "I'm thankful for our kids' school."
(We have an amazing school and every time we think about an alternative, we know we are just where we should be!)

8 says he can't think of anything today. Boys.

From 10,
"I am thankful for my grandparents because they take me out to lunch, and they love me."

From 5,
"I am thankful for art class because it was fun and I got to go with Erin."

7 Days of Gratitude

This time of year is so busy with jewelry, jewelry and more jewelry, that I want to take time to be quiet, and express how grateful I am for my many blessings. For the next seven days (God willing) I will post every day something I'm thankful for or maybe something from one of my little blessings.

Today, I am thankful for the health of myself and my family. I know firsthand how fragile and fleeting our time on earth can be, and I want to cherish every moment.

Sweet 10

We had to take photos today to show 10's new top. We took an all day shopping trip just the two of us and had so much fun. While watching her grow up is bittersweet; there are so many new special things we get to do as she grows. But you can see in her eyes that she's not yet finished growing. There is a sparkle in her eye about the leaf that was as big as her head!

Brothers & Sisters

Brothers and Sisters

Florence Sherrill Ferrell

From where love came,
we cannot see: Perhaps, within us,
born and bred, Or taught to us at parent's knee,
Or instilled by God in heart and head.

Perhaps it sprang from some kind deed,
Which, long forgotten,yet has grown
To dazzling heights from one small seed
In the fertile soil of distress sown.

Respect rises up so far above
The pettiness of separate view;
Differences bow before a love
And friendship that is blood-bound, too.

May the bond between us stronger grow,
May I prove the fondness I confess,
Which my hand's service cannot show'
Nor my simple words ever express.

9 Years & 364 Days Old

10 years ago tonight, it seems like another world. A one bedroom apartment; no internet! Hours and hours of computer solitaire through the night. Pains every 15 minutes. And here she is, crisp blue eyes, almost 5 feet tall with the kind of hair I've always dreamed of. She is...
Sassy.
Brilliant.
Creative.
Passionate.
Loving.
Happy Birthday string bean. I love you more than you can imagine.

All Dressed Up & Not Time to Go

What to do when you're all ready, and it's not time to trick or treat? Ham it up for photos of course. :)
